These washers have a slight dome that flattens under pressure, distributing pressure over a wide surface area and eliminating stress points. They also have smooth tabs on the outside edge that add friction for a tight grip, without digging into your mounting surface the way a sharp tooth would. Tooth lock washers prevent fasteners from loosening in applications with constant movement, such as conveyors. They typically can't be reused because the teeth often get bent when tightened. Internal Tooth—Internal teeth dig into the nut or screw to prevent it from backing out. They grip best on fasteners with small diameters, such as fillister and cheese head screws. Zinc-Plated Steel—A common choice for areas with occasional exposure to moisture.
