Coupled with a variance indicator, these bench centers are often used to inspect and measure shafts, gears, arbors, and other workpieces. Use them to determine your workpiece’s roundness. They will also help you understand if the center of your workpiece is consistent throughout, often referred to as concentricity. And, they can assess your workpiece’s runout, which is how much your workpiece will wobble when it’s rotated. For accuracy, adjust the spring-assisted center until there’s a tight fit on your workpiece and then lock it in place.Vertical Orientation—Bench centers with a vertical orientation can sit upright to hold small but heavy workpieces that would be difficult to hold horizontally. To attach a variance indicator, add an indicator holder.
